Public Service Announcement 2012: Bread

2012 is to be the start of a changing collective consciousness as predicted by the end of the Mayan calendar. The World can not change until it all starts with change of the individual self. PSA 2012: Bread brings awareness to the limits of the human body, the acceptance of death, the power of sexual pop imagery of females, the process of distraction/ commercialization of society, and the poisoning, destruction and potential rebirth of the Earth.

Luminous Intervention

West Side Luminous Intervention Tour
May 19th, 9:00 pm, Transmodern Festival, 2012
Video projection tour begins at the corner of Franklin Street and Tyson Alley

Join Greenpants for an illuminated tour of Baltimore’s West Side, in partnership with the Baltimore Heritage Society. Using building-sized light and video projections during the tour, the group will animate several historic sites along Howard Street, as well as sites whose stories have been washed over. This Luminous Intervention project responds to the choices made by the city to employ a kind of “urban renewal” that is unhealthy, unsustainable and inhospitable to its residents. It reflects on stories from residents, workers, preservationists, and business owners impacted by the proposed “Superblock” plan to demolish and develop a significant area in West Baltimore. How do large scale development plans like this one affect the city and its residents?

Luminous Intervention is an ongoing series of large-scale outdoor projections that began on May 4, 2012 at the Harborplace Mall, in collaboration with the United Workers. Each projection event seeks to bring to light the hidden histories, practices, and envisioned futures to provoke dialogue about our city.

Greenpants is comprised of organizers, educators, illustrators, word-smiths, video-makers, and electronic media artists. Through their shared concerns on issues in Baltimore such as youth prisons, urban development, and economic equity, they decided to join forces to create a group that could apply artwork to social justice issues.

Visionary Crosswalks

Visionary Crosswalks in the Alley OOOOP! is a direct action crosswalk tracing the casual path that jaywalkers regularly take when crossing Mulberry Street while walking down Tyson Alley along in the west side of downtown Baltimore. Colorful adhesive tape will alert motorists to the festival goers parading pathway as they walk to Maryland Art Place from Current Gallery and back. Serving as a voluntary crossing guard, complete with hand-made uniform, I will assist pedestrians as they enjoy their downtown art drift. coreil-allen
