fpThe Baltimore Annex Theatre was founded on January 1st, 2008 with the rental of unit 2W of The Copycat Annex on the corner of Oliver St. and Greenmount Ave. Initial company members included tenants Josh Van Horne, Jake Hostetter, Rick Gerriets, and Kaitlin Murphy as well as Evan Moritz, though official incorporation did not take place until 13 months, a dozen plays, two dozen music shows, and several dozen volunteers later. As of February 19th, 2009 The Baltimore Annex Theatre became a not-for-profit corporation consisting of 6 board members (Kaitlin Murphy, Ryan Mitchell, Michael Farley, Tim Paggi, Rick Gerriets) and existing because of the help of Baltimore’s creative community. Organized solely for charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, our mission is to provide a creative space for diverse artists in order to search for new ideas through performance and the arts with an emphasis on theatre.

The theatre’s base of operations continues to be its live/work space/office at 419 E. Oliver St. in apartment 2W, though as part of our mission we’re seeking to expand our definition of creative space by establishing collaborative relationships with other local arts collectives and theatres. The Baltimore Annex Theatre has collaborated with or presented: Wham City, Black Cherry Puppet Theatre, Load of Fun Theatre, The Gossip Factory (NYC), Missoula Oblongata, Insurgent Theatre (Milwaukee), Bedlam Theatre (Minneapolis) and the Copycat Theatre. We have also presented the work of students from Maryland Institute College of Art and Johns Hopkins University, produced as part of their curriculum and also outside the academic context.

The Annex Theater board members are Michael Farley, Rick Gerriets, Jake Hostetter, Ryan Mitchell, Evan Moritz, Kaitlin Murphy, Tim Paggi, and Josh Van Horne.
